AFTER THE LAST TRADE HAS LEFT
After Builders Cleaning in London
After-builders cleaning in London for rooms that are finished, but not yet ready to use. Discuss construction dust, paint splashes and the surfaces left behind by the work before arranging a visit.
Fine-dust cleaning brief
Surface-by-surface planning
Agree access after the trades

The final room clean after refurbishment, with attention to settled dust, surfaces and floor edges.

Start when the work is genuinely finished
A newly fitted kitchen can look complete while dust is still falling from sanding in the next room. Plan the clean after noisy, dusty work has ended and materials have been removed. Ask the builder which surfaces have been sealed, painted or left to cure. Fresh grout, coatings and adhesives need the correct treatment; an aggressive clean too soon can mark an otherwise finished surface. Tell the booking team if any trades will still be on site.
A practical construction-dust checklist
Walk through the property and note horizontal ledges, skirting boards, door frames, shelving and accessible light fittings. Fine dust settles repeatedly, so the work may involve careful removal followed by wiping and a final floor clean. Kitchen cupboards, bathroom fittings and window interiors need their own agreed checklist. Distinguish ordinary settled dust from plaster residue, paint or cement. Those materials may require separate assessment and must not be scraped off delicate finishes without checking their suitability.
Protecting new finishes
Give the team product information for stone worktops, engineered flooring and newly installed fixtures. Removing debris before wet wiping helps avoid dragging particles across a polished surface. Suitable vacuum equipment matters when fine construction dust is present; do not assume a household machine can safely handle every type of residue. Mention protective films and request advice before peeling them away. Take photographs of existing scratches so that damage from the building work is not confused with a cleaning issue.
Clear the site before the appointment
Remove tools, offcuts, paint tins and packaging, or agree with the builder who will collect them. Provide safe electricity, water and ventilation, along with parking for equipment. Clear walkways and identify rooms where access is restricted. Cleaning is not a substitute for making an unfinished work area safe. If potentially hazardous dust, asbestos-containing materials or an unknown spill is involved, stop ordinary cleaning and obtain the appropriate assessment rather than treating it as routine post-build dirt.
Scope, exclusions and the quote
Explain the size of the refurbished area and whether the rest of the home also needs cleaning. Heavy adhesive removal, external glazing, high-level access and waste disposal should be itemised separately if required. This service does not automatically include builder snagging, repairs or decoration. The amount and type of residue affect the time needed more than room count alone. Confirm what can be treated, what must be left untouched and how unfinished areas will be excluded.
HOW THE VISIT IS ORGANISED
A clear sequence for after builders cleaning.
Confirm the site
Give the refurbishment areas, completion date and any unfinished tasks. Explain whether dust has reached neighbouring rooms and confirm that large building waste will be removed.
Assess the surfaces
Identify new finishes and residue types. Agree accessible areas, suitable products and any marks requiring a separate assessment rather than routine wiping.
Complete the agreed clean
Arrange power, water and safe entry. Review the cleaning checklist separately from the builder’s repairs and snagging work once the agreed areas are ready.

Make a room-by-room handover note
Use a short note to distinguish three things: areas affected by dust, individual residue marks and unfinished work. For example, a refurbished bathroom may need tile surfaces and accessible fittings cleaned while a recently painted door must be left to cure. A hallway may have dust from repeated trade access even if no work was carried out there. Include those routes in the brief. Check light fittings from a safe position and report inaccessible ledges rather than asking someone to reach them without a plan. If the property is furnished, explain how soft furnishings were protected during the work and whether they need separate attention. The clean should follow the real spread of dirt, not simply the builder’s room list.
Check the result without repeating the work
Once the agreed areas are finished, look at accessible ledges and floors in ordinary daylight. Do not judge the work only from a wide room photograph: fine dust may be visible on a shelf even when the room looks bright. Keep windows and doors managed so dust from unfinished areas does not drift back in. If you notice a concern, record the specific surface and contact the booking team with the agreed checklist. A further layer of construction dust generated after the visit is a new event, not proof that the original checklist was missed. Keep the builder’s own snagging list separate from cleaning feedback.

SPECIFIC QUESTIONS
After Builders Cleaning questions
For a property-specific answer, contact the booking team.
Can I book before the builders finish?
You can discuss a provisional date, but confirm that dusty work will have ended. A clean completed while sanding continues may quickly need repeating.
Will paint and cement marks be removed?
Identify them before booking. Removal depends on the residue and surface; a scrape-safe tile and a coated window frame require different handling.
Is builders’ rubbish included?
Do not assume so. Arrange collection of tools, rubble and large waste separately, then check any small-debris removal included in the cleaning scope.
Can new flooring be washed immediately?
Check the installer’s care instructions and curing period. Tell the team about wax, sealant or adhesive that may still be setting.
Is the whole property cleaned?
Only the areas agreed in the booking. Specify adjoining rooms affected by drifting dust, not just the room where the work took place.
What if hazardous dust is present?
Ordinary cleaning is not the correct response to suspected hazardous material. Get a specialist assessment and make the site safe before arranging a general clean.
